High-tech Muscle Memory Awesomeness

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been an athlete. Since I could walk I’ve run, and since I could play organized sports I have done exactly that. Over the last couple of years, as I graduated college and moved into the real world the ability to truly play organized sports has become difficult. So I turned to CrossFit. It’s amazing. But the point of the article isn’t me doing CrossFit.

What most people don’t understand about CrossFit is that it is ALL about doing the insane exercise regimens with proper form. If you neglect this essential step you WILL get hurt. I’ve gotten hurt, my class members have gotten hurt…and it sucks. Proper form on complex movements like the squat, deadlift, snatch, and power clean makes you stronger, safer, and an overall better athlete. Right now the only way to learn proper form is personal attention from your instructor. You can’t learn proper form on your own really, even with a mirror and instructions.

Enter the Ghost.

Yeah, this awesome contraption.

The Ghost is an armband you where that delivers haptic feedback via vibrations that signal when you are performing a movement with proper form. It speeds up muscle memory by teaching athletes mid-movement what they are doing right/wrong, without having to pause for a coach to jump in and help. Any athlete can appreciate this technology. Think about it:

- A basketball player needs to perfect shooting form
- A pitcher/quarterback needs to perfect their throwing motion
- A swimmer needs to perfect their stroke
- An archer/rifleman needs to hold their position steady

Proper form in anything is always preached (“hands at 10 and 2 while driving kids!”) but when it comes to athletics there is no “real” way to learn form on your own without experience. Technology like the Ghost allows for a quicker learning process to speed up all aspects of learning a sport.

Would you want to use a product like the Ghost to help you in your training?
